What is Soda Ash?

Soda Ash is the common name for Sodium Carbonate (Na₂CO₃). It is a white, odorless, water-soluble powder.

There are two main types:

  • Soda Ash Light – fine powder
  • Soda Ash Dense – granules (heavier and used in glass industry)

Major Uses of Soda Ash

Glass Manufacturing (Largest Use)
  • Used to produce flat glass, bottles, containers, and fiberglass.
  • Helps lower the melting temperature of silica.
Detergents & Soaps
  • Used as a builder in detergents.
  • Improves cleaning power and controls water hardness.
Chemicals Production

    Used as a raw material to manufacture:

  • Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • Sodium silicate
  • Sodium phosphate

Water Treatment
  • Controls pH and reduces acidity in water.
  • Used in treatment plants and swimming pools.
Paper & Pulp Industry
